Polyclinic & Swedish Health Services
Seattle, WA / 37,000 SF
The Polyclinic and Swedish Health Services recently joined forces to construct a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in the heart of the First Hill district. Complete with ten operating rooms and two eye procedure rooms, this new facility is the largest ASC in the United States. Full design and installation of a complete HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, and Honeywell Tridium open protocol controls system. The HVAC system utilizes one new central rooftop air handling unit with a chilled water system with electric heat. Located on the low roof above the third floor, first the existing air handling unit that served the old space needed to be removed to make way for the new custom unit. Two chillers, associated pumps and humidifiers were included for the centralized cooling and humidification. The non-ASC areas including the waiting room, reception, offices, and shared areas are served by water source heat pump units with piping tie-ins to the existing building condenser water piping system. Plumbers ran over 6,000 lineal feet of medical gas piping. To accommodate the added medical gas system, a new equipment room was built in the parking garage to house the medical air compressor and vacuum. The medical gas system includes med gas outlets for twelve operating rooms, pre-op, PACU and recovery areas. The design and construction schedule were both fast track, with a total design-start-to-construction-finish duration of seven months.
