Pittock Block

Critical Chiller Crane Pick:

The Pittock Block Piping Team overcame countless challenges, executing a critical chiller crane pick during the Bomb Cyclone storm that hit the Pacific Northwest. Due to the need to execute several crane picks, the schedule changed to night shifts to ensure the building was empty, thereby maintaining the highest level of safety.

Project Manager Sarah Dugan-Higgins expertly coordinated a massive 550-ton crane in downtown Portland, lifting the 23,000-pound chillers and 35,000-pound piping racks with precision!

Our team had to secure a tractor-trailer when one of our freight trucks canceled at the last minute. The team wouldn’t have been able to load the truck without the support of our UA local 32 brothers in the fab shop. They were willing to stay late to load the racks, which helped us get on the road to Portland.

“This was the ultimate collaboration, from our subs to the project team, the fab shop, and the field team. This couldn’t have happened without everyone’s support, sacrifice, and dedication. It’s one of the things that makes MacDonald-Miller a special group. I am truly grateful for everyone’s help and support! We accomplished what most would have considered an impossible deadline.” – Gene Cannon, Piping General Foreman.
