Inside the Project Grande Ronde Hospital

Hospitals are intricate projects because of the many specialized systems they contain. In addition to the usual plumbing and HVAC systems, they also have unique systems—medical gas, vacuum lines, and densely packed additional mechanical equipment to support key function areas of the hospital.

At the Grande Ronde Hospital project, the client’s decision to reduce the available ceiling space for all trades for stacked value engineering made detailing this job a critical component of the project’s success.

In many places throughout the building, mechanical piping, plumbing, medical gas lines, ductwork, and electrical and fire protection are within mere inches of clearance from the structure or other systems.

The overhead spaces in the building are extremely congested, and the success of making the small available overhead space work would not have been possible without diligent detailing to ensure that all systems fit and function as intended.

Weekly MEP coordination meetings led by the MacMiller detailing team were crucial to making all systems work at the Grande Ronde Hospital. Shout out to the team who made it happen:

  • Sheet Metal Detailers: Kris Neff, Vaughn White, Alex Woods
  • Mechanical Piping: Mike Bogatitus
  • Plumbing Detailing: Tyler Johnson, Matt Lindstrom, Josh Howard, Jeffrey Phillips
  • MEP Coordinator: Luke Barendse
