Apprenticeship Appreciation Week

Spotlight Feature: Vince Hanson, Apprentice in our Plumbing Division:

Why are apprenticeships important? I think apprenticeships are extremely valuable for anyone wanting to learn a craft. As an apprentice I greatly appreciate the on-the-job training. I’m able to develop my skills by learning from professionals of the trade, all while getting paid and avoiding debt associated with a more traditional education.

Contractors who support apprenticeships are building a reliable work force for themselves while developing the particular skills they seek. I think this helps to set a standard in which they can expect to maintain. And, of course, the end user benefits by receiving top quality, professionalism, and experience from the contractors they hire.

What do you like about your job? The thing I love most about my job is being able to take a creative approach to the everyday challenges in the field. Conditions and circumstances are rarely ideal, so It can be pretty rewarding when you find a unique solution to an issue. The collaboration between several people using their creativity and experience is a fun thing to be a part of too.

How long have you been an apprentice: I started at MacMiller in January 2018, so almost two years now. It’s been great since day one. I love the culture here.
