Kristen Killen, Service Special Projects Account Manager.
It’s day 5 of Women in Construction Week! Today we highlight Kristen Killen, Service Special Projects Account Manager in Oregon.
“Kristen uniquely takes her technical skills and applies it to building relationships with her customers.” – Kevin Wilder, Special Projects Sales Manager
Why did you choose a career in construction?
When I was growing up, I always enjoyed math and science, so I thought going to school for engineering would be a good fit. I earned my Electrical Engineering degree & Renewable Engineering degree from the Oregon Institute of Technology. I thought I would take a desk job for some local utility company when I graduated.
Then a few months before graduation, I went to a career conference and I met Mark DeWeirdt, Building Performance Group Executive at MacDonald-Miller. He sold me on working for the best Mechanical Contracting company in the Pacific Northwest, and the rest is history.
What do you enjoy about working at MacMiller?
I really love the people I work with. Our team is a tight-knit family. When I started at MacMiller, I was straight out of college and quickly understood how little experience I had. But thankfully, I’m a part of a team packed with experience, passion, and attention to detail. They go out of their way to teach and train. I couldn’t be luckier!
What do you enjoy most about being an Account Manager?
I really enjoy the variety that is a day in the life of a Service Special Projects Account Manager. One of my favorite days was when I walked a job site under the Broadway bridge at a historic building, and I found remnants of the original mill from the early 1900s! You never know exactly where your day will take you, and it’s awesome.
