Project Description

The Seattle Children’s Hospital Building Care expansion delivered 325,000 SF of new hospital space, including an eight-story tower and a three-story, 150,000 SF underground parking facility. To meet aggressive delivery timelines, the project was split into shell & core and tenant improvement phases, with MacDonald-Miller at the center of both. Approximately 175,000 SF of hospital programs were built out and commissioned, along with 45,000 SF of renovations to existing campus facilities, including lobbies, circulation areas, café additions, and chapel expansion.

Our scope encompassed plumbing, medical gas, HVAC piping, and sheet metal ductwork, backed by BIM coordination, prefabrication, and value engineering. Program highlights include a Compounding Pharmacy, Inpatient & Clinical Lab space, Sterile Processing, 10 new operating rooms, Cancer & Blood Disorder Center floors, and 20 patient beds. The new Forest B building ties seamlessly into adjacent Forest A and River buildings on every floor, creating a connected, high-performance environment for patient care.

To protect patient safety, all work was sequenced with careful risk assessments, infection control coordination, and lean practices such as Pull Planning to keep teams aligned and milestones on track. Prefabricated piping systems, sheet metal, and medical gas headwalls streamlined installation.

Through close collaboration with AEI Engineering, the design team, and hospital stakeholders, MacMiller delivered a resilient, future-ready facility that expands Seattle Children’s capacity to provide world-class care to the community.
