Seattle’s New Energy Code

On Jan. 1, 2017, Seattle adopted the 2015 Seattle Energy Code (SEC) and many have wondered how the new code will affect the future of high-rise construction. MacDonald-Miller collaborated with Sellen & PAE Engineers to evaluate potential mechanical system solutions to meet the 2015 SEC compliance and their associated cost impacts. The team came together to determine what it would take to achieve the 2015 SEC when different mechanical systems and glazing percentages were applied. This code will challenge teams of developers and engineers to manage operational costs of meeting code requirements.
