CREW Seattle & Sound January Luncheon

Locally Grown Success Story
Hear how the $68 million Pike Place Market Renovation Project is within budget and on schedule.

The Pike Place Market is one of those extraordinary civic assets that not only attracts tourists from around the world, but also remains a treasured resource for the city’s permanent residents.

Although many of us like to think that one of its main charms is its immutability (hasn’t it always looked like that?), the fact is The Market is a ceaselessly dynamic district that has always depended on the efforts of a dedicated and innovative team of professionals as well as the economic support of the public.

Today, The Market is entering Phase III of an extensive renovation that includes major repairs, seismic upgrades and structural improvements, paid for by a $68.6 million levy. The project is 73% complete and is within budget and on schedule.

At the January 12th CREW luncheon, attendees will hear from three major players in the Pike Place Market renovation. Among the subjects to be presented:

• A short history of The Market and its layout
• Renovation planning and financing
• Team selection
• Phase I and II overview and photographs
• Phase III and next steps

Presenters include:

Ben Franz-Knight, Executive Director of the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority. He manages day-to-day operations including the current renovation effort, maintenance, security, custodial, leasing, housing, farm programs, marketing and administration.  Previously, he served as Executive Director of the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation.

Duncan Thieme, Principal with SRG Architects. A LEED accredited professional with over 16 years of designing buildings that support the mission of improving community life, he is currently the principal-in-charge and project manager of the Pike Place Market Renovation Project.

Scott Paul, Senior Project Manager with Turner Construction and lead on the Pike Place Market Renovation Project. He has over 17 years of experience in commercial construction in a very wide range of projects such as performing arts centers, mall renovations, high tech data centers, laboratories and offices, retail and apartments and interstate highway construction.
